IMPHAL, APRIL 29
The Chief Secretary of Manipur, under the strict instruction from the state government, has called up attendance reports from heads of various departments to take up stringent actions against those employees who did not turn up in their workplaces. Government employees of the state, under the leadership of JAC-AMTUC and AMGEO, have been on strike of mass casual leave condemning the passive response of the government to their demands.
On the other hand, government offices in Manipur today also wore a deserted look on the third day of the protest of taking mass casual leave by the employees. Secretariat office, which is the backbone of all the major governmental activities in the state, remained empty as its employees did not turn up. Even media persons were not allowed entry to the office premises by the security guards to deny coverage of the unfortunate situation.
Many employees of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) also joined the protest on the third day as they merely signed their signed their attendance and left office. This can be taken as another major push to the strike, as DIPR is the hub of all the information regarding government activities.
Meanwhile, as instructed and demanded by the Chief Secretary, heads of various government offices submitted the attendance reports of their employees as the government called up the reports so to enable taking up actions against them.
