Manipur government will be taking up as many as 208 road construction programmes under the 10th phase of the Pradhan Manti Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) scheme by utilizing a sum of Rs 630 crores.
The PMGSY road construction programmes will be implemented across 53 assembly constituencies out of the existing 60 after the central team rejects Rs 23 crores worth construction programmes in 7 assembly constituencies in Manipur’s Imphal Municipal areas, according to Manipur rural development minister Francis Ngajokpa.
Minister Francis Ngajokpa while giving reply to a question by opposition Trinamool Congress MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi assembly constituency in Imphal West district during the question and answer session of the last day of the 3 day state assembly session today said the matter is under process.Minister also informed that a total of 200 road construction works worth about Rs 577 crores were taken up work under the 9th phase of the PMGSY scheme in the said above assembly constituencies in the state.
Regarding the specific question on the location of Langpok project site and other project details, he also assured that he will look into the proposed Rs 2.2 crores worth road (4.90km) construction by consulting the concerned officials and it will be rectified as per the recommendation.
PMGSY is a centrally sponsored nationwide scheme which was introduced by the then Vajpayee government in 2000 in the country to provide good all-weather road connectivity to unconnected villages with a population of 500 and above in the hill areas initially.But is was later extended to villages with a population of 250 in the following phases. Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency is implementing the PMGSY projects in the state.
