Imphal, June 23 (EMN): To check the inflow of illegal migrants, the state authority has taken up necessary steps at the important entry points such — Mao, Jiribam and Moreh in Manipur.
This was disclosed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh while speaking at the closing function of five-day Pineapple and Summer Fruits Festival at Sangaithel Park on Imphal west district on Sunday.
Stating that Behiang of Churachandpur district is one of the important entry points, but has been overlooked for long, Singh announced that he will open Behiang police station tomorrow.
Construction of the police station began last year after its foundation stone was laid by the Chief Minister.
Maintaining that the government has started taking up steps to enhance production, he said Manipur Livelihood Mission has been introduced to increase fish production.
He informed that fish feed production unit has been set up at Lamphelpat and it is likely to make fish feed available in the market soon.
Singh also mentioned that state government had started exporting organic ginger produced in Pherzawl district to other states from last year.
To fulfil the necessity of proper storage facility of horticulture and agriculture produces in the state, cold storages would be set up at five different places soon, he said.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation Minister Th Shyamkumar said that a mini cold storage facility would be constructed at Sangaithel area soon for the convenience of farmers. For this, he urged the farmers to focus on producing organic produces because it has huge demand all over the world.
Earlier, the chief minister and other dignitaries distributed prizes to best farmers and seeds to selected villagers at the function. They also inspected the stalls opened at the park.
The festival was jointly organised by department of Planning, Agriculture, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Tourism, Trade, Commerce and Industries, Central Agricultural University and Indian Council of Agricultural Research.
