Imphal, July 7 (EMN): Manipur Cabinet has approved the Chief Minister's Covid-19 Affected Livelihood Support scheme which would provide direct transfer of INR 5000 in two instalments (INR 2500 per instalment) to every identified family whose livelihood has been directly affected by Covid-19.
According to a press release from Chief Minister’s Secretariat, it stated that it was introduced by the government considering economic dislocations which has severely affected the livelihood of a large percentage of the population leading to an inability to maintain a basic minimum standard of living.
"Eligible occupations include street vendors, farmers, daily wage workers, construction site workers, public transport drivers, school van drivers, shop assistants, artisans, weavers, performing artists, home-based business, etc," the release said. "The scheme, which will be run under the State Social Welfare department, will avail benefit to only one beneficiary per family".
The cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister on Tuesday also approved scheme guidelines for Chief Ministergi Angangi Tengbang (Chief Minister Bal Seva) which had already been announced earlier. The scheme will provide welfare measures for the children orphaned due to Covid-19.
In order to focus on skill development and entrepreneurship for unemployed youths, the state cabinet has given its nod to restructure the Labour and Employment department and for amendment of Business of the Government of Manipur (Allocation) Rules, 2009 accordingly. The cabinet also accorded approval to rationalisation of recruitment in government departments.
It also resolved to engage one consultant in the directorate of Relief and Disaster Management under the centrally sponsored scheme for strengthening of District Disaster Management Authorities of hazard prone districts, and approved the engagement of one senior consultant/DM professional and one data entry operator for implementation of Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The state cabinet also approved creation of five posts of male nurse in Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, and to upgrade the Forensic Science Laboratory, Manipur into a full-fledged department.
The construction of a 120-feet high statue of a Sagol Kangjei (Polo) player riding a pony at Marjing Hills in Manipur’s Imphal East district under the integrated mega tourist circuit has been affected and delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
To oversee the development, the Manipur chief minister accompanied by the deputy commissioner of Imphal East District, director of Tourism, officials of the Public Works department and others, inspected the construction site on Wednesday.
During the visit, Biren Singh instructed the concerned officials to expedite the work and complete it by October this year. Later, the chief minister inspected the mass vaccination drive held at Ibudhou Marjing Lai Haraopham and Primary Health Centre, Heingang, Imphal East District.
