
IMPHAL — Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday visited a relief camp opened at Naorem Birahari College in Khundrakpam and interacted with the displaced people who are presently taking shelter there.
Altogether, 296 displaced people are presently taking shelter at Naorem Birahari College relief camp. Governor interacted with the displaced people, heard their grievances and hardships and assured them to extend all possible help.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]She enquired about the facilities and amenities which are being provided to the people and directed the district administration to improve whatever necessary. She also asked the district administration to initiate skill training programmes for the displaced people.
While interacting with the people in the camps, the Governor said that the state government with the help of central government is making all efforts to bring the situation to normal where all the communities including the Meiteis and Kukis can live together as usual.
Uikey said that the hatred among the two communities has to be removed and that violence must be stopped and should initiate a meaningful dialogue.
Stating that more than 60,000 security personnel have been deployed in the state, the Governor said that search operations to nab miscreants are on and large amounts of arms have been recovered.
On re-settlement of the displaced people, she said that as a temporary measure, prefabricated houses are being built at Sawombung where the displaced people will be there until the situation permits them to return to their respective places. Adequate compensation will also be given to the people for their burnt houses and properties, she added.
