visit to Moreh town on Friday

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Friday visited the border town Moreh, 110km south
of Imphal in Tengnoupal district, and took stock of the overall functioning of
integrated check posts (ICPs).
- Officials of Land Ports Authority of India gave a
presentation to the governor about the functioning of the ICPs.
- Bhalla interacted with leaders of civil society
organisations (CSOs) to understand their grievances. He also met with different
business and community leaders of Moreh town including Border Trade Chamber of
Commerce, Tamil Sangam, Manipur Muslim Council, Gurkha Samaj and heard their
grievances.
- The leaders from of different communities expressed their
concerns, emphasising the hardships they faced due to the suspension of all
cross-border business activities since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Later, the governor visited the Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate
No. 1 and No 2. He then went to Govajang village where he was briefed by the CO
of 25 Border Road Task Force about the ongoing fencing works along the
Indo-Myanmar border.
- Bhalla distributed gifts to the Border Road Organisation
officials and local work force and encouraged them to work further.
- It may be mentioned that the governor was on his maiden
visit after assuming office. He visited Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts
on January 7 and interacted with the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
residing at various relief camps. During his visit, Bhalla inaugurated a newly
constructed IT Centre at Churachandpur College.
