Manipur Governor urges to work for brighter future

Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Sunday urged everyone ‘to reaffirm their
dedication to the ideals of unity, love and progress for a brighter future.’
- In his message on the occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba
Cheiraoba, the New Year of the Manipuris, the governor said, "As we
embrace the dawn of the New Year, let it be a moment of celebration, reflection
and renewed hope for a brighter future.”
- “May this New Year strengthen the bonds of friendship among
all communities and inspire us to build a more peaceful, harmonious and
thriving Manipur,” he said adding, “On this special occasion, I urge everyone
to reaffirm their dedication to the ideals of unity, love and progress for a brighter
future.”
- It is celebrated on the first day of the Manipuri month,
Sajibu, which falls in the month of March or April. Last year, it was
celebrated on April 9.
- Special dishes are prepared from vegetables to be offered to
deities for a grand feast for families. After the preparation, the food is
offered by the elders of the house to three deities for the protection of the
family.
- Married women give gifts to their parents and brothers on
the occasion, while the youth seek the blessings of the elders.
- Praying to gods by offering flowers, fruits and dishes,
traditional family feasting etc., marked the occasion. As a tradition, people
used to climb nearby hillocks in the afternoon.
- Besides the governor, Manipur Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata
Singh along with other MLA and several bodies have extended Sajibu Nongma Panba
Cheiraoba greetings to the people of Manipur.
