Manipur Governor extends tribute on eve of Patriot's Day

IMPHAL — Manipur Governor, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, on Tuesday extended his respect and tribute to the departed patriots, who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the sovereignty during the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891.


In a message on the eve of Patriots’ Day celebration to be held on August 13, Bhalla said, “On this Patriots’ Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to unity and resilience and stand together to defend the nation’s freedom and integrity, regardless of caste, creed or religion.”


The Manipur Assembly Speaker, Th Satyabrata Singh, also extended his tribute and respect to the departed patriots on the occasion.


Meanwhile, the state government has made all necessary arrangements for the observance of the Patriots’ Day on Wednesday.


During the programme, the governor will lead the public in offering floral tributes and laying of wreaths at key memorial sites including Hicham Yaicham Pat at Moirangkhom and the Temple of Thangal General at Palace compound both in Imphal in the morning.


Later in the afternoon, the governor will visit Kangla Western Gate for a wreath laying ceremony at Kangla Uttra and proceed to Shaheed Minar. After the programme at Shaheed Minar, the governor will attend the main function to be held at Bir Tikendrajit Park in Imphal.

Directives have been issued to the concerned departments and deputy commissioners to make necessary arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of the day’s programme.


As part of the observance, a Prabhat Pheri will be organised on August 13 at 4 am along main roads and highways in Imphal.


The early morning procession aims to encourage widespread participation from representatives of all communities and to draw greater public attendance at the function.


The Patriots’ Day is commemorated every year across the state to honour the heroes of the Anglo-Manipur war of 1891, who made the ultimate sacrifice in defending the sovereignty of the state.


The day serves as a reminder of their unwavering courage and patriotism and to renew the pledge to protect the state’s unity, dignity and heritage. The state government has appealed to the public to participate and make the programme a success.
