Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla visited the National Sports University (NSU) campus
at Koutruk, located on the outskirts of Imphal in Imphal West district, on
Saturday.
- During the visit, the governor inspected the overall
progress of the university’s construction and chaired a meeting, where he
reviewed several key challenges affecting the project, including power supply,
water access, land acquisition, and roads.
- During the meeting, representatives from NBCC (India)
Limited provided a detailed briefing on the current status of construction,
outlining the project’s timelines, upcoming phases, and future expansion plans.
- Later, Bhalla directed all stakeholders involved in the
construction of the university to ensure that the project is completed within
the stipulated deadline.
- The joint secretary of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
Sports, secretary to the Governor, vice chancellor of NSU, commissioners,
secretaries, deputy commissioner of Imphal West district, and other senior
officials involved in the construction of the university attended the meeting.
- The governor also held an interactive session with NSU
students, where he engaged in an open dialogue on various academic,
infrastructural, and career-related topics.
- As part of the visit, the governor also planted a Kusum tree
on the university campus as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Ek Ped Maa
Ke Naam” campaign.
- It may be mentioned that NSU is the only sports university
in the country, located in Imphal, Manipur, India. Prime Minister Modi laid the
foundation stone for the varsity on March 16, 2018.
