Manipur government has announced a cash reward of INR 10 lakh to any information leading to safe return of the missing youth
- IMPHAL — Manipur
government has announced a cash reward of INR 10 lakh to any informant who
could provide credible information leading to safe return of the missing youth
in the violence-hit state.
- Announcing this in a press release on Saturday evening, the
joint secretary of Home department, Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh said, “The state
government urges citizens to come forward with any relevant information that
could assist in safe return of the missing person.”'
- A 20-year-old youth identified as Luwangthem Mukesh was
reported missing after he went out in a Maruti auto car 800 bearing
registration No. MN05J-0018 from his residence at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai in
Imphal West District around 2 pm on March 16. Since then his whereabouts was
not known yet.
- Informing that a case was registered in this regard at
Imphal Police Station in respect of the missing case of Mukesh, the joint
secretary stated that Manipur Police under the supervision of a senior level
officer, along with Assam Rifles and other security forces have conducted joint
operations for search and rescue of the missing person in the vicinity of
suspected areas in the districts of Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Noney and
other parts of the state utilising advanced technical data analysis and
intelligence gathering.
- On March 21, parents and members of a joint action committee
(JAC), formed in connection with the disappearance of Luwangthem Mukesh, have
urged the state Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla “to take urgent steps to locate
Mukesh and ensure his safe return.”
- All efforts are ongoing to trace the missing person by the
Police department and security forces by launching search operations in all
suspected areas, the police said.
- Manipur had been witnessing a series of unwanted incidents
after the May 3 incident in 2023 when a student rally turned violent in
Churachandpur district and subsequently the violent acts spread in other parts
of the state in which more than 250 people have lost their lives while more
than 50,000 people were rendered homeless.
