Imphal, Sep. 20 (EMN): The water ways in the state should be used for water way transportation as done in other parts particularly in European countries.
This was stated by Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla while speaking to media persons for the second time at Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.
“I will speak to the government in this regard as we’ve so many water ways,” says Dr Heptulla.“We need to think new ways so that our environment can be kept healthy because the numbers of vehicles on road are also on the rise.”
Informing that she had identified 15-16 areas where the government needs to focus for the development of the state, she said development of tourism is a must in the state and for this it is the need of the hour to create infrastructure and manpower besides developing cultural aspects too.
To develop water sports and other livelihood missions, the Loktak Lake, the largest fresh water lake should be keep clean, she added. We can also develop floriculture which has rich biodiversity in the hill areas. So that it will create job for women especially without disturbing biodiversity.
To accelerate the efforts to achieve universal sanitation coverage and to put focus on sanitation, Prime Minister of India has launched Swachh Bharat Mission on Oct. 2, 2014, the campaign aims to achieve the vision of a Clean India. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the most significant cleanliness campaign by the Government of India.
Cleanliness is a very significant necessary to be followed throughout the life by everyone to really enjoy the nature’s beauty by living a healthy and fit life. Cleanliness is really an abstract state of being clean as well as free from dirt.
She said that she is working hard for removal of Ithai Barrage, due to this barrage, the largest lake in the Northeast, Loktak lake is shrinking and polluted. Water cannot flow to the downstream. With proper infrastructure and manpower, water sports, swimming could be done in Loktak lake.
Seminar and lecture were organised at Raj Bhavan for school children.
On Flying Doctors scheme, Governor said it’s working on the modality. The scheme is one of its kinds and will be very useful for other hill areas in the NE region as the neighbouring states in the area share similar topographical features. Adding that North Eastern Council has allocated Rs 25 cr. for the scheme added, the Governor. She also appealed to respect national anthem.
