Imphal, May 14 (EMN): Manipur Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar on Sunday inspected the Forest Check Post at Mantripukhri in Imphal West and seized around 10 trucks, illegally carrying stones and sands for not paying toll tax. Later, Minister Shyamkumar also inspected the Forest Check Post at Sekmai and Kanglatombi in Imphal West.
Speaking to media persons, Minister Th. Shyamkumar said Forest Department has set a target to generate a revenue of Rs 100 crore annually and today’s inspection was a part of the target. The Minister further said that the revenue generated by the Forest Department can check and control the damage to the natural resources like rampant felling of trees, breaking of mountains and rivers. The Minister also warned the department officials to perform their duties with honesty and full dedication so that the revenue generated by the department can be used for other developmental activities in the state.
Around 10 trucks which were seized for carrying illegal stone and sands were later released after paying the necessary toll tax in the presence of officer at check post near Information Technology Park in Mantripukhri.
