  • IMPHAL — The death toll from the ongoing floods in Manipur rose to four after three children drowned in a pond on Thursday, while the number of affected people climbed to over 1.65 lakh across the state, according to official sources.

  • The tragic incident occurred at Mantak Khunou under Kakching police station in Kakching district. The victims—siblings and their cousin, all below 10 years—accidentally fell into a pond and drowned. Earlier, on June 3, the state had reported its first flood-related death after the body of a 55-year-old man was recovered in Imphal West district.

  • Manipur floods claim 4 lives, affect over 1.65 lakh

One of the worst flood-affected areas in Heingang, Imphal East district, as seen on Friday.

  • As per the latest report from the State Relief and Disaster Management department on Friday evening, 1,65,943 people have been affected by the floods. The disaster has damaged at least 35,429 houses and 76 public infrastructure sites across 708 localities in the state. A total of 4,147 people have been evacuated to safer areas and are currently sheltered in 82 relief camps.

  • Manipur has also experienced 169 landslides due to continuous rainfall over the past five days. The worst-affected districts include Imphal East, Senapati, and Imphal West.

  • Restoration work has begun in severely affected areas such as Heingang, Khurai Heikrumakhong, Khurai Konsam Leikai, Kairang, and Khomidok. However, localities in Wangkhei, Nongmeibung, and Porompat in Imphal East remain inundated. Key government facilities, including the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Imphal East district, are also under water.

  • Road restoration efforts have started on the Imphal–Pukhao Road at Khurai Heikrumakhong, which was cut off on May 31 after floodwaters washed away sections of the Ipum Pat water body.

  • Several areas in and around Imphal are facing power outages as a precautionary measure. The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has suspended electricity supply through the 11KV Wangkhei-I, Wangkhei-II, and Thambalkhong feeders due to waterlogging in areas including Porompat Crossing, Ayangpalli, Thambalkhong, Seram Leirak, Andro Parking, and Keithel Ashangbi. The company said the measure was taken to protect public safety and infrastructure.

  • In addition, water supply has been affected in around 50 localities across Imphal East and West districts. The Executive Engineer of the Water Supply Maintenance Division-II, RK Surendra, informed that supply has been disrupted in areas served by the Porompat, Ningthem Pukhuri, Old Thumbuthong, New Thumbuthong (Aribam Leikai), and Singjamei Ward 17 water treatment plants.

  • “The normal water supply will be resumed when the flood recedes. Inconvenience is deeply regretted,” said Engineer Surendra in a public notice.

  • As flood recovery continues, authorities have urged the public to remain alert and cooperate with ongoing rescue and relief operations.
