Imphal, June 17 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to extend immediate flood assistance for the flood victims of the state. In response, the union home minister assured that the centre will extend necessary assistance. This was disclosed by N Biren Singh while visiting the flood affected places of Maiba Khun and Mongjam in Imphal East district on June 17 Sunday.
Singh said that the union home minister also informed him about home secretary being asked to take up the matter. “So they will make necessary immediate arrangements within the next two or three days. For the long term plan to tackle flood in the state, they agreed to send a team very soon,” Biren added.
The BJP-led government in Manipur had already released INR 3.2 crore for immediate use in providing relief materials to the affected people besides announcing to give ex-gratia to the families of those individuals who lost their lives during the flood.
So far the flood has affected around 1.92 lakh population settling across 360 villages under nine districts. It also claimed 7 lives, according to the state Department of relief and disaster management.
Also, reports stated that the flood claimed more than 400 livestock.
The Chief Minister Biren Singh inspected the flood relief camps which are being opened at Maiba Khul Primary School and Mongjam Mamang Leikai. During his visit, he informed that the state government has asked for immediate financial assistance for rebuilding the houses of the flood affected people, repair and reconstruction of roads, and such, immediately.
Mentioning that people are facing hard times due to the flash flood, the chief minister said that the government is trying its best to control the situation and extend every possible help to the flood victims. He thanked Minister Karam Shyam, MLA Susindro Meitei, army personnel, and newly recruited police personnel for their effort and dedication to repair the breached river embankments. He appealed the people of the state to take precautionary measures from the post flood diseases.
Meanwhile, the Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution minister Karam Shyam accompanied by Khurai MLA L Susindro and others inspected the flood hit areas after the completion of repairing works of breached Imphal river bank at Chajing-Karam in Imphal West district.
Minister Shyam informed the public that the damaged houses and roads of the area will be constructed with immediate effect, saying they were elected to serve the people at this hour of crisis.
Likewise, while the district authorities are trying to provide relief materials, the state health department has been organising health camps at various flood affected villages.
According to health services director Dr K Rajo, as many as 45 health camps has been set up to spread awareness and provide health facilities along with medicines at free of cost.
