Imphal, Dec. 15 (EMN): Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yunam Joykumar singh on Saturday opened the 27th Imphal Book Fair 2018 at Thangmeiband Athletic Union ground in Imphal.
The ten-day fair is being organised by State Central Library, department of Art & Culture in collaboration with Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yunam Joykumar Singh, the chief guest of the inaugural function, called on the people irrespective of ages to read books of different types to enhance one’s knowledge and understanding. By reading books on ancient culture, literature or science, he said one can communicate the knowledge and notion of those days.
Book fair not only give the chance of buying books in concessional rates but also give the chance to meet writers, publishers and book lovers, he added.
Consumers Affairs Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam Singh stressed on inculcating reading habit. He also expressed the need to implement Manipur Library Act and a separate directorate for this purpose.
About 80 firms from the state and major cities like Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati are participating in a ten-day book fair.
