IMPHAL, NOVEMBER 2: The 68th Information and Public Relations Day was observed at the State Information Centre of Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in Imphal on Tuesday with Commissioner K Radhakumar Singh as the chief guest of the event.
During the event, a 55-minute documentary ‘Chaokhat Khongthangda Manipur’ (Manipur in developmental path) was screened. Also, a 5-day photo exhibition on Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh led government’s achievement in 15 years was inaugurated marking the Information and Public Relations Day.
The role of the DIPR is very important and it could be considered a two-way traffic, DIPR commissioner Radhakumar said during the function. It is not only to inform the public about the activities and achievement of the government but to receive feedback from the public as well, the official said.
Also, the official said that the existing recruitment rules of the department needs to be amended so that qualified and experienced staffs would be inducted.
Also, DIPR’s Director Meghachandra Kongbam emphasized the need to change the structure of the department into a specialized and professional department to achieve the government’s goals to inform, educate, and to enlighten the public. Manipur is a typical state having different geographical and demographical conditions where different communities with different dialects and life styles live in the state.
People talk about peace and progress, territorial integrity, and communal harmony issues in Manipur, but it is the primary duty of the department to carry out the public relation practices to resolve the issues of the state, he observed.
