Manipur deputy CM calls for special attention for children with disabilities

Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 14 (EMN): Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh on the occasion of Children’s Day, called upon the people to give special attention to children with disabilities. Speaking as the chief guest during the state-level Children’s Day celebration at the Tribal Research Institute in Imphal on Thursday, he expressed his concern for the less privilege children in the society. He said, there are many issues pertaining to children with disabilities and orphans in the society that need to be addressed. Singh also said that special schemes and welfare measures to provide good education, proper healthcare and other advantages in various sectors of social life should be introduced for them. Special care should be given in children homes and orphanages by treating them with parenting fervour so that they can feel the joy of home, he added. “Though children are the assets of future, we are not fully aware of how we are responsible not only to our own children but also to the children of our society,” he lamented. Stating that celebration of Children’s Day is to commemorate the birthday of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, he said the first prime minister of India, has a significant connotation which has to be rendered upon towards the society. Social Welfare Minister Nemcha Kipgen in his presidential address said that Pandit Nehru’s vision to nurture children by fulfilling their rights to education and healthcare has to be delivered and in this direction that department has taken up many welfare schemes for children especially for marginalised, differently-abled, mentally retarded and orphans in the state. MLA L Rameshwor also spoke on the occasion.
