Imphal, May 17 (EMN): The 60th anniversary of The Cultural Forum (TCF), Manipur was observed at Chandrakirti Auditorium Art & Culture complex, Palace Compound in Imphal on May 17 Thursday.
Deputy chief minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh, Arts and culture minister Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh, Education minister Th Radheshyam and others attended the anniversary.
Speaking on the occasion, Joykumar claimed that the Manipuri culture is one of the most developed cultures in the world. Joykumar said, 'glorifying our history cannot understand our past' while expressing that it has to be introspected so that one can understand the ways of life that people had once lived in the past. Culture shows the relationship between human beings and its relationship with nature as well. 'Each Society has its own philosophy and therefore it is our duty to follow our own philosophy. We should try to understand our own culture and should try to encourage researches based on it,' Joykumar said.
In his speech, Jayantakumar Singh said that the role played by TCFin preserving the culture is wonderful. He said, 'although we have rich cultural values, only a few people are working on it. We have to develop a good habit of reading novels, poems and proses so that we can understand its beauty.' He further said that the government has been taking up a number of new initiatives in developing the art and culture in the state. He said that a film city will soon be established in the state.
Radheshyam Singh who also spoke during the occasion said that the positive values which are rich in culture and traditions should be followed. He said all negative thinking and weaknesses should be dropped and should be rejuvenated for a welfare society.
The deputy chief minister during the occasion handed over Sahitya Akademi Award 2017 to Prof. Rajen Toijamba and Sahitya Akademi Translation Prize 2017 to Dr Naorem Bidyasagar. Sahitya Akademi awardee and other awardees were also felicitated during the day's observation.
