Imphal, May 16 (EMN): Close on the heels of detecting the third positive case of Covid-19 amid the arrival of trains carrying stranded people of Manipur from other parts of the country, four more cases were detected in the state in the past two days, according to the state’s Health department officials.
Additional Director of Manipur’s Health department, Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang issued three separate press releases in this regard on Saturday.
According to the first press statement, the fourth positive case (confirmed on May 15) was a nursing professional returning from Kolkata.
She is now admitted in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), it said.
The second press statement informed that, “a female (76) and her son (48) were tested at VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory), RIMS (Regional Institute of Medical Sciences) and found Covid-19 positive. They are now admitted in the Covid Care Centre, RIMS”.
Stating that they (mother and son) belong to a group of 36 people returning from Mumbai on May 8 by bus, it said, “They reached Manipur on May 13 and all the rest are found negative.”
In the third statement, he informed that 22-year-old woman tested positive at VRDL, JNIMS.
She had arrived on a train arranged by the Manipur government.
It may be recalled that first two cases of Covid-19 in Manipur have already been discharged from the hospitals after they recovered during treatment on April 12 and 21 respectively. On the other hand, the third positive case is undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
Meanwhile necessary containment activities including ‘contact tracing’ have been taken up at the quarantine centre as per existing protocol, read the press statement.
