Manipur Congress protested Rahul Gandhi's detention, demanding Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation over alleged examination irregularities
IMPHAL — The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Wednesday staged a protest march in Imphal, condemning the detention of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination paper leaks and testing irregularities.
Led by MPCC president and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, party leaders and workers marched from Congress Bhavan to Lok Bhavan to submit a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla.
The MPCC said the protest was organised in solidarity with students protesting against alleged irregularities in national examinations and what it described as the BJP-led government's failure to safeguard their future.
The memorandum urged the Centre to ensure greater transparency and accountability in the conduct of examinations, protect the interests of students, uphold democratic values and withdraw what the party termed the "unjustified" action against Rahul Gandhi.
Sharing photographs of the protest on X, Congress Legislature Party leader K Meghachandra said the party remained committed to defending democratic values, constitutional principles and the rights and aspirations of students and young people.
The demonstration concluded peacefully after the memorandum was submitted to the governor through the state administration.
