Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh reviewed security along National Highways and measures to ensure safe movement of passengers and goods, while discussing the early resumption of inter-state bus services.
IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday reviewed the state’s security and law-and-order situation, with particular focus on the National Highways and measures to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of passengers and goods.
Khemchand chaired the Combined Headquarters (Unified Command) security meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal, where the prevailing law-and-order situation and security along the state’s National Highways were reviewed, according to a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, Advisor (Security) Kuldiep Singh, DGP Manipur Mukesh Singh, ADGP (Intelligence) Lhari Dorjee Lhatoo, Major General Gaurav Sharma, IGAR (South), Major General Subhankar Basu of the GOC 57 Mountain Division, and Inspector General Rajendra Narayan Dash of the CRPF (M&N Sector).
Senior representatives of central paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies also attended the meeting, including the Joint Director of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), Ministry of Home Affairs; DIG, BSF; Commandant, ITBP; and Officer Commanding, SSB, Manipur.
Sharing photographs of the meeting on X, Khemchand said the discussions focused on the law-and-order situation along Manipur’s highways and measures to ensure the safe, secure and uninterrupted movement of passengers and goods. He reiterated the government’s commitment to peace, stability and normalcy across the state.
The meeting came two days after Khemchand, Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen and MLA Haokholet Kipgen jointly announced the resumption of the Imphal-Dimapur and Imphal-Guwahati bus services during a function at Kangpokpi district headquarters on August 8.
Following the Unified Command meeting, the chief minister also chaired a high-level meeting with senior security officials and representatives of transporters to discuss the early resumption of the two inter-state bus services, sources in the Chief Minister’s Secretariat said.
Vehicular movement along National Highway 2 (Imphal-Dimapur) and National Highway 37 (Imphal-Jiribam), particularly through areas under Kangpokpi district, has been severely affected since ethnic violence broke out in Manipur in May 2023.
