Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh felicitates historic gold-winning gymnast Ariha Pangambam.
IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, on August 29, felicitated Ariha Pangambam, the first Indian to win a gold medal at the recently concluded 10th Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships in the Philippines, and Anjori Pangambam, who secured the seventh position in the same event.
The facilitation meeting took place at the Chief Minister's Secretariat in Imphal. During the interaction, Singh appreciated their performance in the Asian Championship and encouraged them to continue their hard work to bring more laurels to the state and the nation in the future.
Later, Singh launched a booklet published by the Manipur Olympic Association. During the launch, the CM stated that a special recruitment policy for sportspersons who brought laurels to the state was approved in the Cabinet meeting held on August 28. Under this policy, sportspersons would be recruited by the state government with complete transparency and strictly on the basis of merit.
He maintained that a 5 per cent quota is reserved for sportspersons who brought laurels to the state, providing them with service in the Home department in recognition of their achievements. He added that if a sportsperson fails to perform for three consecutive years, they would be withdrawn from sports-related duties and reassigned to regular duties.
