IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, laid the foundation stones for various projects including the Manipur road project- improvement of roads, market and football ground during a function at Leitanpekpham playground in Andro, Imphal East today.

Speaking on the occasion, Biren Singh stated that the government has to continue taking up development works for the welfare of the people, though the state is witnessing a tough phase of law and order situation.

Highlighting the root cause of the current conflict, Biren Singh stated that the public was confused before knowing the root cause of the same.

Expressing deep sorrow for the loss of lives in the conflict and informing that the government has been putting all possible efforts to restore peace and normalcy, he sought the support of the people in the government’s initiative for the same.

He also appealed to the people of Manipur not to take any step with emotions but rather cooperate in the government’s initiative to restore peace and normalcy through democratic and constitutional means. He also stressed the need to preserve nature to mitigate environmental degradation.

Addressing the gathering, Works minister Govindas Konthoujam cited the state government’s initiative to preserve forests and nature, its effort to root out the drug menace from the state and its identification of illegal migrants as the real reason for the break out of the current unrest.

Referring to the order from the Union Home Ministry to identify illegal migrants in the state and the investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to find out the root cause of the violence in the state, Govindas maintained that the central government has much concern for the people of Manipur.

During the programme, Biren Singh also handed over job cards for the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Chairman of Manipur Tourism Corporation Limited, Th Shyamkumar; chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation, Kh Ibomcha; MLA including Kh Loken of Wangoi, Th Arunkumar of Wangkhei, village chief of Andro, senior government officials, students and the public of Andro attended the programme among others.
