Yumnam Khemchand Singh distributed INR 1 lakh each to 26 internally displaced persons suffering from chronic illnesses at a relief camp in Imphal.

IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday distributed financial assistance of INR1 lakh each to 26 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) suffering from chronic illnesses at the Lamboikhongnangkhong Relief Camp in Imphal.
The assistance was provided during a programme on the distribution of medical aid to seriously ill IDPs held at the Manipur Trade Expo Centre Relief Camp in Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal West district.
The beneficiaries are undergoing treatment for chronic diseases, including kidney ailments and cancer.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said the financial assistance was aimed at providing relief to displaced families facing difficult circumstances.
He added that the government is extending special financial support to IDPs suffering from chronic diseases.
Khemchand said the current disbursement would not mark the end of the government's support and assured that every possible assistance would continue to be provided to displaced persons requiring treatment for serious illnesses.
He said the decision to extend financial aid was taken with the hope of easing the hardships of IDPs, many of whom continue to suffer the trauma of being unable to return to their homes.
Describing the situation as unfortunate, the chief minister said many people have been forced to live away from their homes due to the prevailing circumstances.
Speaking at the programme, newly sworn-in Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi announced that weaving machines and support for other livelihood activities would be provided to women IDPs residing at the relief camp to help strengthen their means of livelihood.
The programme was attended by Sanasam Premchandra Singh, Imphal West Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, internally displaced persons and government officials.
