Former Indian Army Lieutenant General LN Singh appointed Advisor (Coordination) to Manipur Chief Minister for one-year tenure.

IMPHAL — Former Lieutenant General of the Indian Army Laiphrakpam Nishikanta Singh, popularly known as LN Singh, has been appointed advisor (Coordination) to Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.
According to an order, the appointment was made in pursuance of a decision taken at the Cabinet meeting held on February 17. His tenure will run for a period of one year with immediate effect.
Lt Gen (Retd) Nishikanta Singh, a former chairman of Manipur Public Service Commission during the tenure of N Biren Singh, retired from the Indian Army on November 30, 2018.

He became the second Lieutenant General from Manipur in September 2015 and the third from the Northeast since India’s independence. The other two are Lt Gen P K Bharali and Lt Gen Konsam Himalaya Singh, both alumni of Sainik School, Goalpara.
He led the rescue mission in Afghanistan following the attack on the Indian Medical Mission in February 2010.
Sharing the government order on X, Singh wrote that he was “thrilled” by the appointment and expressed gratitude to the chief minister for the trust reposed in him, adding that he looked forward to contributing to the state’s growth and development in line with the vision of Narendra Modi.
In another development, Oinam Sunil, a former member of the Manipur Information Commission, has been appointed advisor (Media) to the chief minister, according to an official order.
