IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday said that the state government would take responsibility for the safety of the people belonging to the Kuki-Zo community who visit Imphal, including for medical treatment.
The chief minister made the statement while flagging off a project of “Strengthening of existing pavement from km 0.00 to km 15.35 and km 30.00 to km 45.00 of NH-137A (Imphal- Kakching Lamkhai section)” held at the Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai in Imphal West district.

Speaking of the airlifting of BJP MLA (Thanlon) Vungzagin Valte, a Paite tribe member from Churachandpur, from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport to New Delhi for medical treatment on Sunday afternoon, he also extended his best wishes for the MLA's speedy recovery.
Khemchand expressed optimism about the project's timely completion and the contractors' sincerity. He instructed the contractors to maintain quality of work and complete the project on time.
The contractors assured the crowd that they would complete the road project before the end of April, in response to the chief minister's query about the deadline.
Meanwhile, sharing his speech, newly sworn-in Minister Khuraijam Loken Singh praised the chief minister for initiating the highway strengthening work, which, he said, had been neglected for a long time.
The minister urged the people of the state to avoid causing any hindrance to the developmental works being taken up.
He added that the new government will give utmost priority to resettling Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and restoring peace, while seeking support from the public.
The flagging off programme, organised by the Public Works Department (PWD), was also attended by Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, and others.
