IMPHAL — Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh assured internally displaced persons (IDPs) of their safe return to their respective homes and said adequate security would be provided.
He also assured the IDPs that a pucca structure to accommodate security personnel would soon be constructed in the area.
Khemchand Singh made the assurance while visiting Kangchup Chingkhong, a foothill village in Imphal West district, on Thursday and interacting with IDPs as part of his continuing efforts to foster peace and build trust among communities.
Maintaining that the trust deficit between communities could be bridged through dialogue, he cited Jiribam district as an example where communities were now living in harmony. He further said the government would look into grievances raised by IDPs seeking enhanced monetary assistance for reconstruction of houses destroyed during the violence.
