State Krishi Mela 2026 in Imphal promoted balanced fertiliser use, organic farming and natural farming certification.

IMPHAL — The State Krishi Mela 2026, organised under the theme “Balanced Use of Fertiliser,” was held in Imphal on Saturday with the objective of promoting balanced fertilisation for healthy crops and sustainable soil health.
The programme was attended by Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Central Agricultural University Dr. Anupam Mishra, MLAs S Rajen Singh, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, L Rameshwor Meetei, T Robindro Singh and Dr. Y Radheshyam Singh, along with Commissioner (Agriculture) Thaithuilung Pamei.
Addressing the gathering, the chief minister said the Agriculture department has been working towards earmarking around 400 hectares of agricultural land exclusively for the production of organic products.
Khemchand stressed the need to promote organic fertilisers over chemical fertilisers, stating that excessive use of chemical inputs poses risks to human health and that efforts should be made to gradually reduce dependence on them.
Highlighting the success of organic farming in Sikkim, he noted that the Himalayan state became the country’s first fully organic farming state through close cooperation between the government and its people.
He also appealed to farmers to adopt double- and triple-cropping practices to enhance agricultural productivity in the state.
The chief minister further stated that the government would monitor the distribution of urea fertiliser to ensure its availability to genuine beneficiaries. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mishra lauded the Agriculture department for selecting the theme “Balanced use of fertiliser” and emphasised that balanced fertilisation is essential for maintaining soil fertility, reducing cultivation costs and ensuring higher crop production.
During the programme, the chief minister launched a magazine titled Farmers’ Success Stories,’ documenting the achievements and experiences of 53 farmers from across the state.
He also distributed Natural Farming (NF) Scope Certificates and formally launched a range of natural farming products.
A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between the Department of Agriculture and the Central Agricultural University for Natural Farming Certification, aimed at strengthening certification mechanisms and promoting natural farming practices.
As part of the event, agricultural machinery under the first phase of the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM) was distributed to 189 beneficiaries, involving a total financial outlay of INR 4.32 crore.
The chief minister also felicitated recipients of the State-Level Best Farmers Awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the agricultural sector. The mela was organised by the State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) under the Department of Agriculture and was attended by Director of Agriculture Peter Salam and other officials.
