Manipur Cabinet approves recruitment of 1,882 teachers under Samagra Shiksha and clears key measures on sewerage, sports appointments, land use and fire services.
IMPHAL — The Manipur Cabinet has approved the recruitment of 1,882 teachers, besides approving a series of projects, policies and legislative measures, including the extension of the Integrated Sewerage System for Imphal City Phase-II.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh at the Cabinet Hall of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on August 21, reaffirmed the decision to recruit 742 staff and teachers of different categories on a contractual basis under Samagra Shiksha, Manipur.
It also reaffirmed the decision to recruit 1,140 pre-primary teachers under Samagra Shiksha on a contractual basis.
Regarding the Integrated Sewerage System for Imphal City Phase-II, the Cabinet approved an extension of the project for two years, up to January 8, 2029. The project is funded by the New Development Bank.
The Cabinet also approved the Manipur Outstanding Sportspersons (Special Appointment) Policy, 2026, which provides for the special appointment of outstanding sportspersons to specified Group A posts in the Youth Affairs & Sports Department and the Police Department.
Under the policy, eligibility and the maximum pay level or level-band for consideration will be determined based on the sporting achievements of the candidates.
The Cabinet further approved the Deregulation of Change of Land Use in Planned Areas of Manipur through an amendment to the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014.
The provision will apply only to land located within the Master Plan Area notified under the Manipur Town and Country Planning Act, 1975, where the proposed non-agricultural use is in strict conformity with the land use specified in the Master Plan.
The Cabinet also approved the Manipur Fire and Emergency Service Bill, 2026, based on the model framework developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It recommended that the Bill be placed before the upcoming session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Sharing photographs of the meeting on X, Chief Minister Khemchand Singh said the Cabinet discussed key agendas, particularly those related to the welfare of the people.
The meeting was attended by deputy chief ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Loshi Dikho, other Cabinet ministers, and officials from various departments.
