Imphal, April 12 (EMN): Following the footsteps of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah, Manipur BJP unit observed a day of ‘fast to save Indian democracy’ at the party's head office at the state capital on April 12 Thursday to mark their protest against the disruption of Parliament’s most significant budget session allegedly by the opposition party MPs in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha.
Manipur BJP-in-Charge and Lok Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh Pralhad Singh Patel, BJP state unit president K Bhabananda led the Manipur brigade of saffron party attended the party’s nationwide fast protest.
Forest minister Th Shyamkumar, Hill areas committee chairman TT Haokip, BJP MLAs Dr Y Radheshyam, T Robindro, Th Seitabarta, H Dingo, L Sushindro besides former union minister and former state unit president Th Chaoba, former opposition firebrand in state assembly and veteran politician O Joy, former minister Francis Ngajokpa, former BJP MLA M Bhotot, former BJP Manipur unit presidents participated in the day’s fast.
Though the opposition and the BJP have blamed each other for the repeated disruptions in the budget session of parliament which concluded on April 6 with several key bills pending as the country heads towards the 2019 general elections, most of the BJP state leaders who spoke in the day's one-day-fast accused the opposition parties in the parliament for disturbing the parliament sessions for 23 days.
They also displayed festoons which read ‘Parliament is a temple not a fish market,’ ‘disturb parliament to please the enemy,’ ‘no bills passed-development in Peril’, ‘voters sent you to perform, not to yawn & yell,’ were the prominent ones among others in and around BJP state unit head office where the fasting took place from 10 am till 4 pm.
