[dropcap]B[/dropcap]JP Manipur Pradesh president Thaonaojam Chaoba has demanded inquiry into the alleged intentional power outage in Manipur to black out the swearing in ceremony of Prime Minister of India and his council of ministers on May 26.
When the entire nation were eagerly waiting to watch historic swearing in ceremony live on TV, Manipur suffered an unusual and surprising power outage when the ceremony was about to start and then mysteriously the power was restored soon after the ceremony,he said. “Therefore we’ve requested an impartial enquiry for necessary actions”,he added.
Meanwhile BJP Manipur has proposed the suspension of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) 1958 from the state of Manipur in order to save the life of Irom Sharmila.“We’ve made a proposal in this regard during our recent meeting with Rajnathji who is the new Union Home minister,”says BJP Manipur Pradesh President Thounaojam Chaoba Singh. “He also assured that the matter will be discussed.”
The proposal was made so that disturbed area Act could lifted from all the 60 assembly constituencies in the state and also save the life of Sharmila, according to Former Union Minister (Sports)said. The disturbed area Act have been lifted from seven assembly constituencies in and around the state capital following public outcry in July 2004.
Repeal or removal of AFSPA would certainly take time even if the government at centre likes to do so as it need clearance from both the houses of parliament, so the proposal has been made, he added.
Demanding repeal of AFSPA which gives extra power to the security forces, Sharmila also known as ‘Iron lady of Manipur’ who has been on a fast unto death agitation since November 2000, had appeared before a New Delhi court on May 28 in connection with a pending case, couldn’t meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi due to the latter’s hectic scheduled. Chaoba was speaking to media persons here on Saturday after his two weeklong New Delhi visit to attend the swearing in ceremony of Narendra Modi as the 15th Prime Minister of the country and meeting seven new Union Ministers and other BJP national leaders.
