IMPHAL — Manipur’s department of Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution (CAF & PD) on Wednesday announced the rollout of free LPG connections for eligible women beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) Phase 3.0.
The announcement follows the government of India’s recent decision to release 25 lakh additional free LPG connections aimed at supporting women’s empowerment, improving health outcomes, and reducing household drudgery through access to clean cooking fuel.
Officials from the CAF & PD Department and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited made the announcement during a joint press conference in Imphal.
Director (CAF & PD) K. Bono Singh informed that 2,22,010 free LPG connections have been provided in Manipur under the PMUY scheme so far. He said Phase 3.0 targets households that remain uncovered from earlier phases. “The District Ujjwala Committees have also been constituted to oversee the implementation of the scheme to ensure that only eligible households receive connections,” he added.

Rajjyoti Das, Divisional LPG Sales Head of the Silchar Indane Divisional Office, accompanied by State Level Coordinator (SLC) of Oil Industry Manipur R.K. Mohen Singh, outlined the key features of the Phase 3.0 rollout, including eligibility requirements and documentation.
Stating that many families in rural, remote and hill areas are yet to access LPG, Das said the new phase aims to cover all remaining households. He noted that the scheme targets 25 lakh free LPG connections for 2025–2026 and urged eligible families to avail the benefit.
Launched in May 2016, PMUY provides deposit-free LPG connections to adult women from rural and deprived households. The government has provided over 10.33 crore deposit-free LPG connections across the country in Phase 1 (2016) and Phase 2 (2021).
Officer on Special Duty (CAF & PD) Haobam Bobby Singh also attended the press conference along with other officials.
