Imphal, Dec. 21 (EMN): For the first time in Northeast, 5G network was formally launched in Imphal on Wednesday, hence becoming the first state in the Northeast Telecom Circles to launch the network.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh accompanied by state chief secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar led senior officials and the CEO Rajnish Verma of Bharti Airtel, Assam and North East led staff launched the 5G Network in a function held at Chief Minister’s secretariat.
Speaking on the occasion, Biren Singh said, “The launching of 5G will improve the lives of the people of Manipur, raise the living standard of the people and would also create much needed employment opportunities for the state.”
Highlighting the Prime Minister’s vision regarding 5G Network, he said the country had launched the 5G network on October 1 this year with an objective to transform various sectors including health, transport, logistics, agriculture, disaster management, etc.
Stating that the use of telecom infrastructure extensively for better governance is an integral part of the state’s development strategy, he hopes that it will deliver improved user experience in sectors including agriculture, education, health, transport, traffic management, smart cities, and smart homes.
Informing that Manipur is the first among the NE states to launch the 5G network in his keynote address, Dr. Rajesh Kumar expressed his confidence that in the next six months each and every recognised villages in the state will have at least 4G connection which will make connectivity in Manipur one of the best in the region.
Airtel is the first operator to launch 5G services in the Northeast, according to CEO Rajnish Verma of Bharti Airtel (Assam and North East) which is India’s leading telecommunications services provider.
