Imphal, May 2 (EMN): A temporary assignment for the office of the Manipur governor has been instated. Professor Jagdish Mukhi was sworn in as the governor of Manipur at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal on May 2 Wednesday.
Jagdish Mukhi will take charge of the Manipur governor in the absence of Dr. Najma Heptulla, who is on leave for four weeks. Raj Bhavan Imphal sources said that Dr. Heptulla will be visiting United States to attend her grandson’s graduation. Acting Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court Justice N Kotiswar Singh administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new governor. After the swearing-in- ceremony, the governor inspected a guard of honour commanded by Ningshem Vashum commandant of 5th IRB.
Mukhi was a veteran leader of BJP and a former MLA from Janak Puri assembly constituency in Delhi. He was also sworn in as governor of Assam on October 10 2017. In his previous assignment, Mukhi served as the lieutenant governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He succeeded Banwarilal Purohit who has been appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
