Imphal, Feb. 9: With the announcement of the elections to the 11th Manipur assembly elections scheduled for March 4 and the 8th,some intending candidates belonging to the ruling and opposition parties have started to file their nomination papers at their respective Returning Officer’s office in the state.
A day after a CPI candidate Huirem Bimol of Lamlai seat filed his nomination papers, four senior politicians including three sitting congress MLAs and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate filed their nomination papers on Thursday.
The three Congress leaders are Nameirakpam Loken (Nambol) Dr Irengbam Ibohalbi Singh (Oinam) and Govindas Konthoujam (Bishnupur) filed their nomination papers from Indian National Congress (INC) party for their respective constituency. The BJP candidate was Jyotin Waikhom (Thangmeiband). Reports from Tamenglong district also informed that former MLA Janghemlung Panmei had also taken his nomination papers from the Returning Officer’s office to file his nomination on a Naga People’s Front ticket.
With the assembly election just a few weeks away, poll-preparedness activities have been going on in full swing led by the administration with the arrival of various central observers.
Soon after their arrival, the central observers also began visiting their respective area to have a first-hand account of the poll preparations in the district.
On Thursday, the Central Awareness Observer of Bishnupur district, Ajmer Santosh, inspected the SVEEP activities and MCMC roles in the Conference Hall of the deputy commissioner’s office, Bishnupur.
