Mokokchung, Oct. 23 (EMN): Mangkolemba in Mokokchung district will have an arts college, the foundation for which was dedicated recently. ‘Mangkolemba New Model College,’ as the new college is called, was dedicated at Tzupaksa in Mangkolemba of Mokokchung, on October 10.
Menuokholie Kire, state projector at the Higher Education department said in his introductory note said that the new college would be of Arts. It is being implemented as part of the Rashtriya Unchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan programme phase-II. The college’s campus covers 29 acres in Khar village’s jurisdiction.
The minister of Higher Education & Technical Education, Temjen Imna Along Longkumer, addressed the programme marking the dedication. The minister said that the foundation for a ‘greater’ future for the people is in education.
The minister lauded Dr Longrineken, advisor for Law & Justice, for his initiative to set up the new college here; and to Khar village for the college’s campus. He lamented that one of the reasons why the three ranges in Mangkolemba lag was because the people did not give importance to education. ‘The range has very few technically sound, educated persons. If we are not technically sound in education how can our people progress?” he queried.
The new college, he said, is being set up with a vision for the people to bring development to the Mangkolemba area besides bringing benefit to the Naga people as a whole.
Asserting ‘technically sound educated persons’ to be the backbone of the village and its community, he urged leaders of the ranges to give importance to education. That way, he said, ‘youths of tomorrow are technically sound educated persons who will lead the society.’Further, the minister urged the Ao Students’ Conference and student organisations of the ranges to be serious about schools and colleges in the district. The reason he gave for the assertion was that it would keep the education system ‘uncorrupted.’
The minister also opined that the Naga people can move forward only when they work towards fostering unity personally. To make the Naga society progressive, he added, the people need to acquire knowledge; through knowledge, a progressive and unified society can be attained. He added that building Nagaland was not only the responsibility of elected representatives alone but of citizens too. He cautioned: “If we just focus more on acquiring more material wealth than there will be no vision for the future youths and that visionless generation will be a curse for the Naga.”
Dr Longrineken, advisor for Law & Justice also spoke at the programme. He called the event a red letter day for the people of Mangkolemba. The legislator has urged the people to consider the project their personal project.
He said that developmental projects for roads, bus services and a helipad would be implemented soon.
