Man arrested for attempt to rape minor girl

50-year-old man identified as Ram Nayak was arrested on March 18 on charges of
attempting to rape a 9-year-old Karbi girl in Karbi Anglong, Assam.
- According to sources, Nayak, a resident of Pil Khana in
Kohora under Golaghat district and an elephant mahout at Kaziranga National
Park, invited the minor girl to his home for a few days. On March 18, he took
her to Ethnic village in Kohora, Karbi Anglong, where the alleged incident
happened.
- As per sources account, Nayak was caught red-handed by local
residents while attempting to commit the crime in a deserted bathroom.
- The incident has raised concern among locals about parents'
trust on strangers by allowing their children to accompany them for vacations
and recreation without proper supervision.
- It was reported that the locals later handed over the
accused to Dolamara Police Station and registered a case under the POCSO Act.
