Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): Chairman of district disaster management authority (DDMA) and deputy commissioner (DC), Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, on March 25 personally handed over cash as immediate relief fund to the affected farmers of Longtsung villagers whose agriculture crops, rubber plantations, fisheries, water pipeline, rubber processing machines were destroyed by wild elephants on March 7.
A DIPR report stated that altogether 35 beneficiaries were given cash incentives, which was personally handed over by the deputy commissioner at a small function held in Longtsung community hall under Sanis ADC headquarters in Wokha district.
Deputy commissioner, while handing over the cash to the affected beneficiaries, stated that he has been in touch with various agencies and department of forest to solve the menace. Stating that government cannot give 100% recovery of the damage caused during such events, he has assured his best to assist the affected farmers in every possible way by providing immediate relief through government agencuies. In this regard, he requested the farmers to apply for assistance through proper forms and formats that are provided through the government.
Also pointing out that villagers are the first responders in times of any eventualities, he urged the villagers to inform the concerned area administrative officers in order to initiate timely action.
Chairman of Longtsung village council expressed gratitude to the deputy commissioner for his concern towards the suffering of the affected farmers and for personally coming to the village to hand over the relief.
