On July 29,2014 the Dimapur Police received a phone call from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vijayawada City (Andhra Pradesh) with regard to the reported abduction of two engineers hailing from Andhra Pradesh from a hotel in Dimapur and who were later released on payment of a huge amount of ransom money.
One month later the enquiry into the reported abduction carried out by Dimapur Police has led to the identification of one Longngoi Phom in the abduction for ransom.
In a press release the Dimapur Police investigating the case said they arrested the accused from Darogapathar, Dimapur this morning for his involvement in the crime.
The accused Longngoi Phom is 35 yrs old and the son of Metlang Phom of Tamlu village Longleng, district. During his interrogation, Longngoi admitted to the crime but also claimed that the Company in which the victims were employed owed him money. Longngoi reportedly told the police that despite repeated demands to settle the payment the Company was not releasing the amount. Fearful that the Company was closing its business in Nagaland, before paying him his dues he planned to abduct the engineers to drive a bargain.
To carry out the act he involved some cadres of the NSCN (IM). The next day, on the 30th July’2014, after the Company made a payment of Rs. 20,00,000 (Rupees twenty lakhs) which includes the money the Company owed him along with interest, the two abducted engineers were released. A case has been filed against Longngoi in the Dimapur East police station for further investigation, the press release adds.
