Dimapur, July 5 : The Mangkolemba Ao Lanur Telongjem (MALT) has complained that Block Development Office (RD) in Mangkolemba has not been functioning for more than 3 years and demanded the authority to take disciplinary action against the staff for dereliction of duty.
MALT in an ultimatum to Director, Department of Rural Development, complained against continuous absence of BDO and staff and demanded for disciplinary action.
“Mangkolemba being one of the largest Sub-Division in Nagaland covering 3 ranges of Jangpetkong, Japukong and Tsurangkong with 56 villages, the role and duty of the Block Development Officer and the staff becomes very vital. However, the BDO office is completely non-functional since the joining of Imtilepden Ao, BDO Mangkolemba on 16 September 2013 to till date. This has given rise to many loop holes and grievances for the people of Mangkolemba sub-division.”
The MALT recounted that since its inception in 2013, it has visited the BDO office time and again and submitted report to various Addl. Deputy Commissioners. “The MALT has visited the BDO office twice even in 2016. To our great dismay and just like on previous occasions, the office was found empty with no staff and officer.”
“Consequently, MALT issued a press release on June 13 in the local print media about the absence of the BDO. Yet, till date, there is no steps being initiated by the concerned department against the erring officer and the staff.”
The MALT questioned the seriousness of the Director of the RD department in regard to dealing with disobedient, irresponsible and non-performing officers and staff. “The MALT cannot comprehend as to how any department or office can run/function with zero attendance, leaving aside about the question of delivering service to the public.”
The MALT demanded the director to take disciplinary action against the erring BDO and his staff and to resume functioning of the BDO office with deployment of new BDO on or before July 31. The MALT said it will be compelled to take radical steps in the event of failure on the part of concerned authority.
