Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): Swachh Bharat ambassador Geoffrey Yaden on Monday challenged Dimapur citizens to make Dimapur the cleanest city in the Northeast region by 2019. He said this at the inaugural programme of waste segregation for wet and dry waste under Swachh Bharat Mission Dimapur on the occasion of World Environment Day in the premises of Dimapur Municipal Council.
‘Swachh Bharat mission - an action oriented mission is to have Clean India and eliminate open defection by 2019,’ conveyed Yaden. Stating that his role as an ambassador was a catalyst, he has sought cooperation towards fulfilling the mission.
He observed that World Environment Day is observed to remind us of our responsibility towards conserving the environment and improve the living condition of our city. Underlining that waste disposal is a big challenge in Dimapur, Yaden suggested that disposal should be done scientifically without polluting the environment.
Also stating that ‘there is always room for cooperation,’ Yaden called upon various wards, unions and organisations to get involve in Swachh Bharat Mission by inspiring young minds of their responsibilities.
The message of DMC Administrator, Moa Sangtam, which was read in his absentia reads: ‘the mission objective is to keep our city clean with the adoption of proper modernise solid waste management within a short period of time. “DMC is going to establish recycle plant with imported technology at its designated landfill, thus, DMC may able to provide eco friendly atmosphere with zero pollution to the Dimapurians.”
He, therefore, sought co-operation towards the plan and programme of DMC and uphold the awareness of this waste management in one’s colony. In order not to delay the mission, Sangtam informed the colony people/ wards to submit lists of houses/ committee at the earliest.
On the occasion, 12 bundles of dustbins in the form of Dry and Wet waste in two separate waste bins were distributed to Ward committees as 1st instalment provided by the DMC to each household free of cost.
Sangtam further informed that dustbins will be distributed in phase manner after submitting/ showing the received signature by the household persons to DMC office.
