Kohima, March 27 (EMN): A major fire broke out due to short circuit at Para Medical colony in Kohima on Wednesday. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.
According to sources from the Fire Department (South), the two storey kuccha house belonging to one of the locals was reported to have caught on fire due to short circuit. On receiving the emergency call at 11:55 am, the fire fighters hurriedly reach the spot at around 12 noon. Owing to the small roads and parking on the roadsides, the fire tenders had to take more time than expected, the department stated.
The house was said to be in 'full flame,' by the time they reached at the sight. Most of the residents were not home when the fire broke out.
The loss of property from the incident was estimated at INR 50-60 lakh, while the salvaged assets was over INR 2 crore. Altogether, six fire tenders were pressed into service. About 35 fire fighters alongwith the youth and neighbours assisted in dousing the fire. It was also reported to have taken over two hours to salvage things from the scene.
It also further informed that two LPG cylinders exploded while one was saved. Three families reside in the house, sources added.
