Mokokchung, Oct. 27 (EMN): Majakong Ward, one of the oldest wards in Mokokchung, today celebrated its glorious golden jubilee at the premises of its community hall with Merentoshi R Jamir, parliamentary secretary of social welfare, as the chief guest.
Congratulating the Majakong Ward authority on attaining fifty years, the chief guest urged the ward citizens to prioritise on development of Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital as it is symbolic and represent hope for people of Mokokchung and neighboring districts. He also appealed the ward authority to envision their future focusing for the uplift of the youth.

Dwelling on the unfortunate turn of event in the run up to the Urban Local Bodies elections between the Naga public and the State government, he informed that the government is planning to reconstruct or make a fresh bill for the Nagaland Municipal Act. He added that the first consultation meeting was held with the stakeholders and deliberated on the controversial Act.
In this regard, he asserted that the ward authorities have bigger role to play for the growth of the township.
On the Naga political issue, he lauded that Government of India for inviting the other Naga political groups to join the talks for an amicable solution. “Naga progress depends on the final settlement,” the young legislator asserted.
Meanwhile, M Bendangnukshi Longkumer, who spoke on the jubilee theme “Jangyu Medem (uniformity),” lamented that we are living in an era of corruption and dishonesty. He called upon the leaders and people of Majakong ward to rise and be the torch bearer of truth and justice where the older and younger generation would co-exist and work to fight the corruption for a better future.
He also called upon the people of Majakong to excel in all fields- education, political, economic social or cultural.
Saying Majakong is one of the diverse wards in Mokokchung where people from different communities have been living in peaceful co-existence, he further appealed the residents to remain trustworthy to their social commitment to work towards development and uplift of the ward.
Earlier, chief guest unveiled the jubilee monolith. Bendang Jamir, Associate pastor of MTBA, offered the invocation and Watsu Telen Majakong Ward and Women folks from Sumi community presented jubilee songs.
Short speeches were also delivered by chairmen of Artang Ward, Lijaba Lijen Ward, Ungma Village Council and Mokokchung Village Council.
