Kohima, Oct. 21 (EMN): With an aim to promote and unravel hidden talents, the Lhisemia Youth Organisation (LYO) is organising its sports meet from October 24 to the 26th at TM School Ground, L Khel, Kohima village.
The LYO said in the update that many players have excelled in their respective disciplines through this tournament. It believes the exposure from the sports meet can help the players get recognition and transform them into future state players.
As Naga wrestling has started gaining popularity, the LYO has also encouraged its youth to continue exploring traditional game. A Hero Honda motorcycle will be awarded to the wrestling champion during the sports meet.
The selected players will represent Lhisemia Khel in next year's Kohima village sports meet from January 6 to the 8th.
Besides sports, the meet will also focus on other fields like art, music etc. to name a few. The organisation has invited all its members near and far to participate in the sports meet to bolster oneness and unity among the youth.
On 26 October, the LYO is collaborating with the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) will sensitise the community in the fight against single-use plastics. A cross country race on the theme "Say no to plastic” will be flagged off at Thevokemouzie, the location where the first Kohima village sports meet was held.
A musical extravaganza as well as prize distribution ceremony is scheduled on October 26 at L Khel indoor stadium.
Athletic events for both men and women like 100m, 200m, 400m (800m,1500m and 3000m for men), discus throw, shot put, high jump and triple jump is scheduled for October 24.
There will also be competition in indoor games (both men and women) like badminton, table tennis and chess (only Men). Basketball and volleyball games are open to both men and women but football will only feature only men.
Naga wrestling and the cross country race will be held on October 26. Khriehu Liezietsu will grace the occasion as the special guest and Lhisemia council as guest of honour.
