Dimapur, November 7 : The Lüruri Development Council (LDC) has alleged that ‘Maj’ Lopong of GPRN/NSCN attempted to murder its president Shaphongtsü on the night of November 4 at 11.54 pm.
Vehemently condemning the attempt to murder, LDC general secretary RK Thexiri, in a release, on Monday alleged that ‘Maj’ Lopong in camouflage came along with his personal guard in an unregistered motorbike carrying M-20 pistol and kartoos with an intention to kill Shaphongtsü.
The release recounted that though the LDC had earlier banned movement of vehicles/trucks carrying pinewood beyond Tizu river, ‘Maj’ Lopong, violating the direction, forcefully employed some people to collect pinewood in Lüruri land “out of his greed without any legality”. The LDC alleged that ‘Maj’ Lopong ignored the standing order and challenged the ban by bringing trucks to fetch pinewood on October 13. When, as per its standing order, the LDC stopped the trucks and unloaded the pinewood, ‘Maj’ Lopong taking advantage of his possession of arms threatened to kill its president Shaphongtsü and general secretary RK Thexiri within 10 days, the release said.
The LDC further alleged that on October 13, ‘Maj’ Lopong called Shaphongtsü and Thexiri over the phone and threatened them to kill them, saying “No NPG or Village Guards will always be there to protect you. I will come and kill you within 10 days’ time. I can take my own course of action at any time and at any place.”
On October 23 and 27, ‘Maj’ Lopong asked Shaphongtsü where he hid Thexiri, saying he had come to Sütsü to find him. And again on November 1, he threatened them with dire consequences, the LDC further alleged.
The LDC said it is now crystal clear that he had an intention to achieve his “evil design” even by killing the two LDC leaders as indicated by the November 4 episode, the release stated.
The LDC called upon the leadership of GPRN/NSCN to take strict disciplinary action against ‘Maj’ Lopong for his “anti-people” activity within 11 days from the publication of this press release, failing which it will not cooperate with GPRN/NSCN.
“Till such a time the issue is settled peacefully, movement of either vehicle or human shall be strictly prohibited between Mimi and Laruri road,” the LDC added.
