Luis Trio, a jazz band from Delhi who has been conducting workshop on bass, guitar and drums and will be performing live in Kohima on April 3 at Symphony Café, TCP gate in Kohima from 5:30 pm onwards.
The three band members are Loic Sanlaville on guitar, Sonic Shori on bass and Aditya Dutta on drums who are touring the northeast states, Delhi and Kolkata.
The event is jointly organised by Hope Centre for Excellence and Symphony Academy of Music to promote music education and jazz music, which is relatively quiet new.
Luis Trio is a project formed and conceptualized by Loic Sanlaville, a French jazz guitarist in 2011 collaborates with local and foreign artistes and uses elements of different music set on original compositions by Loic.
Addressing media person on April 2 at Symphony Academy of Music in Kohima, Sanlaville said that his love for music began as early as when he was just three-year old. Sanlaville who is also a sound engineer said he always try to incorporate different elements of rhythm and harmony in his music.
At present, he said he is trying the Indian classical music through tabla and African music and that the band Luis Trio is working together for the last six months.
Dutta informed that the band will be heading for Shillong and perform at Cloud 9, Centrepoint Mall on April 7, The Evening Club on April 7 and Alliance De Francaise, Kolkata on April 8.
When asked what jazz music is all about, Sanlaville described it as an ‘interactive music’ characterized by swing and blues note, calls and response vocals and improvisation. He said jazz music is a genre where musicians have the freedom of experiencing and playing what one wants.
Jazz music being relatively new in the country, Sanlaville observed that things are slowly developing in India where there are lots of places coming up to play and people to listen as well. Describing his experience in India as a good opportunity for him to progress as a musician, Sanlaville said things are getting better and better.
The managing director of Symphony School of Music, Melekhoto Pucho informed that tickets for the concert will be available at the venue which is priced at INR 200. He was optimistic that this will be a good experience for music lovers.
