Dimapur, April 2 (EMN): Lt. General Shokin Chauhan AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, after a successful stint of 39 glorious years in the Indian Armed Forces retired on March 31 from the services as the Director General of Assam Rifles (DG AR).
A press release issued by the Assam Rifles mentioned that an alumnus of NDA, DSSC and the prestigious National Defence College, Shokin Chauhan was commissioned into the 11 Gorkha Rifles in December 1979.
A highly decorated officer, among other successful appointments in his career, he is also said to have had the unique distinction of handling media relations for the Army in its public information unit. He took over as the 19th Director General of Assam Rifles on Dec. 12 2016.
General Chauhan is said to have believed that the Assam Rifles is an elite force assigned with the dual task of border guarding along the International Indo-Myanmar Border and tackling internal insurgency.
General Chauhan is also said to have had complete faith in the efficiency of his force that has a rich history of 183 years of presence in the northeastern part of India. His contribution towards bringing to light, the role of Assam Rifles in protecting the Indian Democracy, through multiple exposure on various social media platforms have helped the rest of India to know about the impactful existence of the Force, the release stated. His vision to let the Indians learn about the ethos of the force is said to have been fruitful.
