Kohima, Jan. 14 (EMN): To commemorate its 75th anniversary celebration, Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU) kick-started the household waste segregation campaign on Saturday at L Khel in Kohima village.
The main objective of the campaign was to sensitise every household within Lhisemia khel jurisdiction on the importance of waste segregation from the household level and ensure that segregated wastes are transported to the designated treatment plant. The campaign was also aimed at avoiding dumping, burning and accumulation of all biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes together.
Lhisemia council members, Lhisemia Youth Organisation office bearers, LSU 75th anniversary organising committee members, LSU executives and about 100 students took part in the campaign on the theme “With one mind....towards a healthier environment.”
Lhisemiapfü Mechü Krotho (LMK) had arranged refreshments for the volunteers.
Earlier, the chairman of Lhisemia Council, Ayie Yhome, flagged off the campaign.
The participants have also pledged to make L khel a 'waste-segregated area' and resolved to abide by the adopted action plan.
The programme was chaired by Khriesazo Liezietsu, co-convenor of organising committee, while the organising committee member, Vitsu Yhome, shared the concept of the campaign and Kekuolhouthie Dziivichii, deacon Khedi Baptist Church, invoked God's blessings.
