Dimapur, March 4 (EMN): The establishment of the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland has informed about the Election Commission directing that the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and by-elections to the state legislative assemblies be held simultaneously.
Interestingly too, the election authorities have informed that the photo voters’ slip will not be accepted as a standalone identification document for voting from now on. It will continue to be prepared and issued to electors as part of ‘awareness building exercises’ but will not be the primary document for identification.
Electors who have been issued with electors’ photo identity card (EPIC) have to produce the card for identification at the polling station before casting their votes, updates said on Monday.
Voters who are not able to produce the EPIC should produce alternative photo identity documents. The documents include passport, driving license, service identity cards with photograph issued to employees by central or state government PSU’s; public limited companies; passbooks with photograph issued by bank/post office; pan card, smart card issued by the RGI under NPR; MNREGA job card, health insurance smart card issued under the scheme of ministry of Labour, pension documents with photograph; official identity cards issued to MPs, MLA’s/MLCs, or Aadhaar card. The documents will establish voters’ identity, the updates stated.
The election establishment added that the photo voters’ slip will not be accepted as a standalone identification document for voting although it will continue to be prepared and issued to electors as part of the awareness building exercise.
