Kohima, April 15 (EMN): Lower Bayavü Giants beat Zienuobadze Highflyers by 46 runs in the final match to emerge as the champions of the 4th 10th Northern Angami-1 T20 Bash here at Kohima village ground, Ziekezou, today.
Electing to bat first, Bayavü Giants set a target of 132 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Man of the match Tapitu contributed with both the bat and bowl to steer his team to victory. Leading from the front, he scored 34 runs in 29 balls, while he was well supported by Imomemba who scored 22 runs from 40 balls. Tali, who claimed two wickets in 4 overs was the pick of bowlers for Zienuobadze.
Chasing the target, Zienuobadze Highflyers found themselves on the receiving end as their wickets kept falling at regular intervals.
Three wickets each from Sengulie and S.S.Alam and two wickets from Tapitu of Bayavü Giants proved too costly for Zienuobadze. Except Aduo’s 25 runs from 24 balls, and Aso who scored 14 runs in 21 balls, none of Zienuobadze’s batsmen were able to make a start. Instead they lost all their wickets in 18.2 overs, as majority of their batsmen could not even climb up to double figures. Sengulie’s over proved crucial and was the deciding factor as he went on to pick three wickets from just 1.2 overs.
The champions walked home richer with Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up received a cash award of Rs 50,000. As for the individual awards, Tapitu, Man of the match for the final match, was also adjudged as the “Man of the tournament”. He scored 140 runs and claimed 8 wickets during the tournament. The title for the best bowler was given to Saroj of Peraciezie Royals (8 wickets), best batsman to Imomemba of Lower Bayavü Giants (182 runs), while the best discipline team was awarded to Kenuozou Wolves.
A total of 16 teams participated in the tournament which commenced on March 29 under the theme “Bat for unity.” The tournament was organised by Brotherhood Group.
The final match was graced by EAC Thejavizo Nakhro as the guest of honour, in place of SDO Sadar Kethosituo Sekhose, who failed to turn up due to some prior engagements.
The closing programme was chaired by Kethosituo Elvis Mepfhüo, convenor, organising committee, while Kevingunuo Suokhrie presented a special number.
